What is the reason for hiccups? How do I stop my hiccups?

What is the reason for hiccups?

Eating a large meal, drinking alcoholic or carbonated beverages, or getting excited suddenly may cause hiccups. In some cases, hiccups may be a sign of an underlying medical issue. For most people, hiccups usually last only a few minutes. Rarely, hiccups may continue for months.

How do I stop my hiccups?
Home treatments include:
  1. Drinking water quickly.
  2. Swallowing granulated sugar, dry pieces of bread, or crushed ice.
  3. Gently pulling on your tongue.
  4. Gagging (sticking a finger down your throat).
  5. Gently rubbing your eyeballs.
  6. Gargling water.
  7. Holding your breath.
  8. Breathing into a paper bag (do not use a plastic bag).
Does acid reflux cause hiccups?
Distension and gastro-oesophageal reflux are the most common causes of hiccups.
Can drinking water stop hiccups?
Drinking more water may help, too, but some experts recommend gargling water because it stimulates the nerves in the back of your throat. Try doing a couple sessions of gargling to see if it helps stop the hiccups.
Does eating ice stop hiccups?
Swallowing ice or ice cream can work to stop hiccups by stimulating the vagus nerve.  Swallowing small pieces of crushed ice, sucking on ice, or eating slushies, frozen smoothies, or ice cream could all work.
