Make a hair pomade using castor oil

Hair Pomade

Make a hair pomade It’s a little known fact that expensive hair pomades and gels (at least the more natural ones) are basically just a mix of beeswax and an oil.

Castor oil is a particularly good oil to use for this purpose – not only is it thick so it will provide styling, but it is beneficial for your hair for all the other reasons listed in this book.

All you will need for this is some beeswax and some castor oil. You can optionally add some essential oils for scent. You can use whatever you like, but I have tried using lavender, rosemary, and cypress. So how do you make an all-natural hair pomade with castor oil?

First off, you will need a tin to store the pomade in once you make it. This can be a tin you get off Amazon, but you can also reuse a tin you might have lying around (for example, an Altoids tin).

If you are reusing a tin, you will want to sterilize it with some rubbing alcohol. This recipe isn’t water-based, which means it won’t be particularly prone to going bad because of bacteria and molds (bacteria and molds love water). Still, it’s a good idea to sterilize your tin to stall that bacterial growth as much as possible.

Once you have your tin ready, you will just need to melt together equal parts of the beeswax and the castor oil. You do this by the double-boiler method. Simply put a large pot on the stove, and fill it with water about halfway.

Put a smaller pot inside of the larger pot, and put the beeswax and the castor oil inside the smaller pot. The water in the outside pot will heat the inside pot slowly.

This will allow the beeswax and the castor oil to melt together evenly and not burn or stick to the pot. Once the beeswax is melted and evenly mixed with the castor oil, allow the mix to cool a bit, then add a few drops of any essential oils you will be using.

How much essential oils you use will depend on how much pomade you are making.

You shouldn’t use more than a 1% dilution, meaning that for each tablespoon of beeswax and castor oil, you should use no more than 2 drops of essential oil.

For example, if you used 8 tablespoons of beeswax and 8 tablespoons of castor oil, you should use no more than 16 drops of essential oils.

Finally, pour out your pomade into the tin, and allow it to cool. And that’s it, your pomade is ready to use! It will be great as a present or as a natural and effective hair product.
